Why playing Bridge is good for developing Risk Management skills

I love running up & down mountains … crazy I know 🤣

Recently I decided that as I now have more flexibility in my work-life integration (balance), I needed to also develop a new (less strenuous) skill. So I have taken up BRIDGE & joined a local club. Whilst I knew the basics having played many different card games, learning the language of bidding is certainly challenging.

But what has this got to do with business & management of risk ? Surprisingly there are a complementary set of skills that I am developing. Bridge is a complex & challenging card game that requires players to use a variety of cognitive skills, including:

♣ Logical Reasoning: Bridge players must be able to analyse the cards & use this information to develop a bidding strategy and to play their cards effectively.

♦ Problem-solving: Bridge players are constantly faced with challenging problems, such as how to bid against a difficult hand or how to defend against a strong contract. They must be able to quickly assess their options & make the best decision possible.

♥ Communication: Bridge is a partnership game, and players must be able to communicate effectively with their partners in order to succeed.

♠ Risk Management: Bridge players must be able to balance the risk of making a mistake with the potential reward of winning a hand. They must also be able to adapt their strategy to the changing circumstances of the game.
